School Night is a summer workshop series for alumni & students in Los Angeles.

Ever wonder what it takes to land a gig with huge artists like Lourde? Or what going on the road with the Jonas Brothers is really like? And what about when you're not on the road? How can you stay current in the industry and even launch other projects?

Join Justine Taormino, associate director of Alumni Affairs, as she leads a panel discussion on the ins and outs of being a professional touring musician.

Panelists include:

Ro Rowan, B.M. '13, cellist, composer, songwriter and sound designer

Demian Arriaga, B.M. '04, touring drummer, teacher, and host of The Music Mentor podcast

Check-in begins 6:30 p.m., conversation 7 p.m.

:SPEAKERS:

Ro Rowan
Ro has worked with Lorde, deadmau5, Mike Posner, Toni Braxton, Willie Nelson, Annie Lennox, The Boston Pops, Deepak Chopra, Dream Theater, Alan Silvestri, George S. Clinton, Christopher Lennertz, Ron Carter, Terri Lyne Carrington and Lalah Hathaway.

Their cello can be heard on over 200 albums, film scores, television shows, documentaries, commercials, trailers, video games and short films.

Ro is currently in Los Angeles freelancing as a cellist, composer, songwriter and sound designer. They are on the team at the boutique music and mix house, Cassette, as a composer and arranger. Ro also works with composer, Michael Gatt, as his Scoring Coordinator and occasionally with Output as a preset and content designer. In addition, Ro created and runs Rowboat Production, a video production company specializing in videography and video editing. Most recently they finished a 2017 summer tour with Lorde, was featured in Toni Braxton’s “Deadwood” music video and was a soloist for the score of Tyler Perry’s Acrimony.

Demian Arriaga
Drummer and Percussionist Demian Arriaga was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. At the age of 19 he moved to Boston where he attended Berklee College Of Music and graduated in 2004. He had the privilege of taking percussion lessons from Eguie Castrillo, Ernesto Diaz and Mike Rinquist. His drumset studies were under Dave Dicenso (Hiromi, Josh Groban) and Mike Mangini (Dream Theater, Extreme).

In 2007 he made the most important decision of his career which was to move to Los Angeles. Since his arrival to said city he has kept more active than ever not only performing, touring and recording but also teaching. He has also made numerous TV appearances at shows such as: The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Good Morning America, Late Night with Seth Meyers among others.

Some of his credits include work with: Iggy Azalea, The Jonas Brothers, Victoria Justice, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and more.
